Thomas Zigal
~Biography~
Born in Galveston in 1948, Thomas Zigal spent his
formitive years growing up in Texas City
~
His relatives on his father's side were Czech farmers in Central Texas
and so he spent much of his childhood roaming the woods and farmland
between LaGrange and Smithville, where he learned to cowboy, hunt, and
fish with his many cousins
~
He received a B.A. degree in English from
the University of Texas - Austin
~
He received an M.A. in Creative Writing from
the Stanford Writing Program
~
He is a former Vice President of the Texas Institute of Letters
~
He has lived in Texas, Colorado, the San Francisco Bay Area, Santa Fe,
New Orleans, Atlanta, and Fribourg, Switzerland
~
From 1986-89 he lived in Aspen, the setting that provided the
inspiration for the Kurt Muller series
~
Over the years he has made a living as a college professor,
editor, professional speechwriter, news reporter, and occasional
bartender
~
His short stories have appeared in literary magazines and
story anthologies for over
25 years
~
He is the author of four published novels,
including three Kurt Muller mysteries set in Aspen, Colorado:
Into Thin Air (Delacorte,
1995),
Hardrock Stiff (Delacorte, 1996)
Pariah (Delacorte, 1999)

Mr.
Zigal and his son now live in Austin, Texas
~
Mr. Zigal currently works for the University of Texas,
in the
Office of the President, as
Chief Speech Writer
